Newmount Brass celebrated their 10th birthday with a fantastic concert at Newmount Methodist Church.  It was great to perform a mixture of old favourites and exciting new pieces in front of a capacity audience.

Thanks to former members Thea, Ed and Barrie and our friends Alex, Will and Dan who all helped us out and played brilliantly.  Well done to Ben Redfern who performed with Newmount for the very first time.

Thank you all again for supporting our band - we hope to see you again soon!

Congratulations to cornet player Rachel Patterson who achieved 3 Distinction Stars in her A-Levels!

Rachel has been a Solo Cornet player with Newmount Brass for several years, alongside being a member of The National Methodist Youth Brass Band. She will be studying Heritage and Conservation at Stirling University in September, and any brass band in the area will be lucky to have her (although only 'on loan', you understand!).

Rachel - thanks, congratulations and good luck!

After nine years of hard work and invaluable service to Newmount Brass, both Alan Salmon and Mick Sharpe have this evening stood down from their roles as Musical Director and Chairman respectively. Both have held their roles since the formation of Newmount Brass in 2005 and have worked tirelessly ever since to enable the band to grow from strength to strength.

In recognition of their outstanding contribution to Newmount Brass, both Alan and Mick have accepted invitations to become Honorary Vice-Presidents of the band.

The band would officially like to welcome Tim Robinson as our new Musical Director. Tim is a local musician, conductor and classroom music teacher.

It is with great sadness that the band has learned of the passing of David Scott-Savage, our solo trombone player. David had a long history with brass bands and other musical groups, and had been involved with Newmount Brass for six years. He did invaluable work as Assistant Musical Director, was editor of our newsletter 'The Music Stand', and also arranged several pieces of music for the band (most notably 'Danny Boy'). He will be sadly missed by all members. Our love and best wishes go to his wife Olwyn and children Garry and Alison, in addition to the rest of his family and friends.

A charity concert to celebrate David's life has been arranged for Saturday 5th October 2013 at Littleover Methodist Church, 19.30, in conjunction with the Dalesmen Male Voice Choir. A fee will not be charged but donations to the RNLI are encouraged. As there are a limited number of spaces for this event please contact Alan Salmon on 01332 774789 for more details.
